All around as you play are the rugged peaks and stony flanks of the Chiricahua, Aravaipa, Superstition and White Mountains. The sculptured figure of a warrior on horseback keeps watch on a hill above the fairways and greens, a reminder of the ancestor warriors who rode here before. Nor does this course seek to tame the desert. Our fairways and greens, laid out by award-winning architect Tom Doak, took their shape from the ups and downs of the land. Our hazards are the raw arroyos that you have to carry from tee to fairway and from one landing area to another. Yet in some ways this is a fairer course, a more playable course than many of the desert layouts you’ll see in Arizona.
